Again, face Dmitry Medvedevthe former Russian president and deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, shares his sharp criticism of the West, against the background of the conflict in Ukraine.
Medvedev stressed today, Thursday, that “the defeat of a nuclear power in a conventional war may ignite a nuclear war,” referring to the military campaign launched by his country in Ukraine.
In a post on Telegram commenting on NATO’s support for the Ukrainian army, Medvedev, an ally of current President Vladimir Putin, wrote, “Nuclear powers never lose in major conflicts on which their fate depends.”
For its part, the Kremlin said that Medvedev’s statements that Russia’s defeat in Ukraine could lead to a nuclear war are fully consistent with Moscow’s nuclear doctrine.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed last week, in an interview with a German newspaper, that Western countries would send new shipments of heavy weapons to Ukraine.
“The recent commitments to deliver heavy weapons are important, and I expect more in the near future,” Stoltenberg told the Handelsblatt daily.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that the former president has hinted at the nuclear issue, since the launch of his country’s military operation on Ukrainian soil on February 24, his statements were sharp, and he directed harsh and sometimes sarcastic criticism of the leaders of Western countries.
He also repeatedly accused the West of seeking to undermine the “great Russian power” and of being hostile to his country, especially after European countries and America imposed thousands of sanctions on Moscow as a result of the entry of its forces into Ukraine.
