Jazz on the Beach Festival Transitions to ‘Free Price’ Entry in 33rd Edition

Hermance, Switzerland – The 33rd annual Jazz on the beach festival is set to take place on August 8th and 9th, offering 16 concerts and showcasing over 70 artists, a notable portion of whom are emerging talents. A long-standing tradition of free admission is evolving this year with the introduction of a ‘free price’ entry system.

The festival’s main stage, situated on the Hermance beach with views of lake Geneva and the Jura mountains, will feature a diverse lineup. Friday evening’s performances include the Soulbusters, a group from the Geneva School of Music, followed by Afra Kane, the 2019 Montreux Jazz Talent Awards winner, and the Geneva-based English hip-hop group, Captains of the Creativity.

The more intimate ‘Caveau’ stage will host a series of acts including Jet Whistle (Jazz-Électro-Rock),Groovy Quartet Kuma, and photons (Jazzz-Electro). The festival will kick off with a unique performance by Obayà Batucada,an Afro-Latin percussion ensemble, who will move through the quay area.

‘Free Price’ System Explained

Saturday’s schedule includes a children’s show by the Wolf Fanfare at the town hall, followed by performances from trainees of the Lemanic Jazz Workshop. The caveau stage will showcase French ensemble Ninanda,Amin Al aiedy (orientalizing jazz),and Louis Billette Lux. Evening performances on the beach will feature King louis Swing Orchestra,Paris Soul Connection, and Konkolo Orchestra.

This year marks the first time the festival is requesting a contribution for entry. “To ensure the festival’s continuation, implementing a ticketing system became necessary,” explains Vanessa Horowitz, the festival’s artistic programmer. However, the system operates on a ‘free price’ basis. “We suggest a contribution of 10 francs, with options for supporters to give 20 francs or more, but attendees are welcome to contribute any amount they can afford.”

The ‘free price’ entry grants access to both the beach stage and the Caveau. The town hall stage and the platform area, including food vendors, will remain freely accessible, and children under 10 will be admitted free of charge.

Festival organizers continue to encourage the use of public transportation and are partnering with the Recover Angels association, which promotes recycling through art created from repurposed materials.
