(Ecofin Agency) – The recovery in certain sectors of activity after the waves of Covid-19 is not systematic, and will clearly require more time in some countries to achieve pre-pandemic performance.
The National Ports Agency of Morocco (ANP), in charge of managing all the country’s platforms except the Tanger Med complex, reported that traffic for all the ports it operates fell by 4.2 % in 2022.
A total of 87.2 million tonnes were handled on these platforms, including 56.17 million tonnes for imports, 26.98 million tonnes for exports, 2.7 million tonnes for import cabotage and 1.36 million tonnes for export cabotage.
Compared to the performance of 2021, this gives an increase in activity of 2.4% for imports, 27.2% for import cabotage and 37.2% for export cabotage. On the other hand, concerning exports, traffic is down 18.5%.
The categorization of the volumes handled by packaging reveals that dry bulk goods are the most frequently handled in the ports of the ANP, with 59.6% of the overall volumes. Next come liquid bulk with 21.5%, containerized freight with 13.9% and the ro-ro category with 1.2% of overall traffic.
In terms of performance by port, the Jorf Lasfar platform tops the ranking followed by the port of Casablanca, the two having achieved respectively 39% and 29% of the total traffic in 2022. The ports of Safi (10.3 %), Agadir (7.5%), Mohammedia (6.3%), Nador (4.3%) and Laayoune (2.1%) follow.
