Tahiti, September 13, 2022 – French Polynesia is currently participating in the 12e Pacific Island Leaders Conference. The opportunity for Heremoana Maamaautaiahutapu, who represents Polynesia, to discuss with the leaders of the Pacific Islands but also the representatives of other Asia-Pacific countries that are not members of the Conference.
French Polynesia participates in the 12e Pacific Island Leaders Conference, currently being held in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is represented by the Minister of Culture, Environment and Marine Resources, Heremoana Maamaautaiahutapu. Alongside the Heads of Government of American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Hawaiʻi, Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Federation of Northern Mariana Islands, Republic of Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, he participates until Wednesday in the various discussions, the theme of which this year is “Pu’uhonua: the Pacific Way”.
The Pacific Islands Leaders Conference is an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on development goals; identify priority areas for research and training; to broaden the dialogue among island leaders, and with other governments, organizations and communities in the region and around the world; and to determine the regional priorities around which the Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP) – the secretariat of the Conference – develops and executes its activities and programs, recalls a press release from the presidency. On the first day, Monday, the twenty leaders participated in a dialogue with representatives of Asia-Pacific countries not members of the Conference: Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea. .
