When a sexual relationship is healthy, both physically and emotionally, it does not cause pain. But it’s not always so. Some people may have uncomfortable experiences at the time of intercourse.
According to gynecologist Priscila Pyrrho, specialist in women’s health integrative medicine, if there is pain, there is something wrong. The reason can be both emotional and physical in origin.
“We are more than a physical body. So, the mind influences the body and vice versa. And one of the main causes of pain during sexual intercourse is the woman not being ready for the moment of penetration, because she is not lubricated”, explains the doctor.
The emotional factor is important
Dr. Priscila also reports that the main complaints she receives in her office are from patients who feel burning and pain during intercourse.
“This discomfort can manifest itself in three ways: through external pain, as discomfort in the vaginal region, which is more in the middle, and as a deeper discomfort. The treatment will depend on the diagnosis”, says Priscila, remembering that 87% of the cases she sees in the office have an emotional origin.
