Security forces have cordoned off the area and started searching for the perpetrators. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

The Pakistani branch of the Taliban operates as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has admitted being behind the incident.

Last week, Pakistan was rocked by a suicide bombing at a mosque in the city of Peshawar that killed 101 people. The mosque is located in a complex that houses the provincial police headquarters and an anti-terror police unit of Peshawar, one of the city’s most heavily controlled areas.

Investigators from Pakistan’s intelligence services and counter-terrorism agencies are focusing their investigation to determine how the attacker broke through the tight security barrier.
