Pakistani Envoy Meets Jatiya Sangsad Speaker in Dhaka

Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Haider met with Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in Dhaka on November 1 to discuss bilateral parliamentary relations, mutual delegations, and training opportunities.

Diplomatic ties between Dhaka and Islamabad moved toward closer institutional cooperation this week as Pakistani High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider paid a formal courtesy call on the Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament. The meeting took place on Sunday at the Speaker’s office inside the National Parliament House in Dhaka.

The discussions focused heavily on establishing structured parliamentary connections. Both sides emphasized the importance of forming a parliamentary friendship group and facilitating regular exchanges of parliamentary delegations between the two nations.

Inter-Parliamentary Union Support and Training Proposals

During the meeting, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad expressed formal appreciation to the Pakistani government for its diplomatic backing during recent international elections. Pakistan supported Barrister Jahrat Adib Chowdhury—who serves as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—securing her a seat as a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Executive Committee. The election took place during the 153rd IPU Assembly held in Tanzania.

Beyond legislative diplomacy, the two officials explored concrete avenues for administrative cooperation. Talks covered providing training to officials and employees of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat at Pakistan’s legislature, the Majlis-e-Shoora.

Upcoming Parliamentary Sessions and Delegations

The diplomatic calendar includes multiple upcoming engagements between the two legislatures. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad formally invited the Pakistani High Commissioner to observe the upcoming session of the Jatiya Sangsad, which is scheduled to begin on November 9.

Both delegations noted that closer cooperation between the respective parliaments is crucial to provide a robust foundation for bilateral relations.
