Smukfest raises ticket prices and cuts Saturday capacity

Festival tickets in Denmark are closing in on the 4,000-kroner mark as Smukfest announces a price increase for its upcoming event. A standard partout ticket for next year’s festival will cost 3,895 kr., marking a 200-kroner rise.

The annual music gathering in Skanderborg is also adjusting its capacity, cutting 2,000 tickets from Saturday sales. Single-day tickets will likewise increase by 100 kr., with the exception of Sunday passes, according to details reported by music magazine Gaffa.

Organisers point to rising operational costs across the live music industry as the primary driver behind the adjustments. Trine Bang, indholdschef, direktionsmedlem and talsperson for Smukfest, defended the pricing structure in a statement to Gaffa.

Det er mange penge, men sammenlignet med andre festivaler er det ikke en dyr billet, hvis man ser på, hvad der er med i prisen, said Trine Bang, as reported by Gaffa.

Ticket Comparisons and Historical Pricing

To put the new rates into perspective, festival pricing across Denmark varies significantly by duration and inclusions. A partout ticket for the eight-day Roskilde Festival costs 2,650 kr., while a three-day pass for NorthSide is priced at 2,400 kr. At Tinderbox, a three-day ticket costs 2,650 kr., according to figures compiled by DR.

Smukfest maintains that its higher price tag covers an extensive package. The ticket grants access to approximately 170 concerts over eight days, alongside camping facilities, parking, transport, cloakroom services, and the delivery of the festival wristband. Attendees can also utilize installment payment plans or sign up as volunteers to gain entry, as noted by Gaffa.

Historical data compiled by DR illustrates how festival pricing has evolved over the decades:

  • 2000: 775 kr.
  • 2010: 1,800 kr.
  • 2015: 1,995 kr.
  • 2020: 2,695 kr.
  • 2025–2026: 3,698 kr.
  • 2027: 3,895 kr.

Capacity Adjustments and Sales Timeline

The decision to reduce Saturday capacity by 2,000 tickets follows audience feedback indicating overcrowding during peak days. While festival management noted that a post-festival survey showed many attendees experienced Saturday as heavily packed, they clarified that the reduction is not a direct consequence of the evacuation incident behind the bars during The Minds of 99 concert last summer, when crowd pressure increased on the festival grounds.

Tickets for next year’s event go on sale Tuesday, 3. november, kl. 10.
