KARACHI: Fisherman became a millionaire overnight. The Pakistani fisherman got crores after getting the rare medicinal fish. Haji Baloch, a fisherman and his friends, on Monday got a rare fish called Sowa, also known as Golden Fish, from the Arabian Sea.
When the fish reached the Karachi port on Friday morning, it was auctioned and fetched Rs 7 crore. Sowa fish, a rare species, is said to have many medicinal properties. Baloch said he got Rs 70 lakh for just one fish
The fish weighs 20 to 40 kg and can reach a length of 1.5 meters. It is in high demand in East Asian countries. “We were fishing in the outer sea in Karachi … when we got this huge collection of golden fish, it was a stroke of luck for us,” said Baloch. Haji said he would share the money with his crew of seven.
