The parliamentary majority in Montenegro launched the process of the resignation of President Milo Djukanovic. The deputies signed the corresponding proposal. The TV channel reported RTCG.
The resignation was supported by 41 out of 80 deputies. They signed a document that instructs the parliament to check the possible violation of the constitution by the president and launches the resignation procedure.
“President Djukanovic violated article 95 paragraph 5 of the country’s constitution by not inviting all parliamentary parties to consultations on the candidacy of the future prime minister … We state that Djukanovic did not invite the candidate for the post of prime minister Miodrag Lekic, who received the support of 41 members of parliament,” RTCG quotes the text document.
In September, the parliament nominated the new prime minister of Montenegro, Miodrag Lekic. The deputies sent a corresponding letter to President Milo Djukanovic. He called the introduction of a new candidate “impossible” and put forward the idea of reducing the mandate of the current parliament. This would lead to early parliamentary elections.
