Bavaria’s Prime Minister received 646 of the 669 valid votes in the unopposed vote on Saturday at the party conference in Munich.
Söder wants to mobilize his party for the final spurt in the election campaign. He receives support from CDU leader Friedrich Merz, who is in Munich as a guest speaker. Söder accused Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (both SPD) of inaction and mistakes in migration policy.
Scholz is doing what he does best in the crisis: he is a “master of silence,” said the Bavarian Prime Minister on Saturday at a CSU party conference in Munich. Political design is now needed. “The situation is too serious to remain silent.” And about Faeser, Söder said: “She is confused, she seems increasingly overwhelmed.”
Söder once again called for an “integration limit”; the challenges could not be met otherwise. Say yes to humanity, but no to uncontrolled immigration to Germany. “We need a change in migration policy in our country.”
According to all surveys, the CSU will be by far the strongest force in the election on October 8th. The Christian Socialists are still threatened with their worst state election result in almost 70 years. It is eagerly awaited to see whether Söder will receive a lesson for the poor poll results in the regular board election or whether the delegates will demonstratively support him with a strong result.
