The Professional Disc Golf Association has officially released the updated Official Rules of Disc Golf and Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events, set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
The annual revision process is overseen by the Policy & Compliance team and incorporates input from senior staff, the Global Board of Directors, the Rules & Regulations Advisory Committee, Disc Golf Pro Tour employees, and the PDGA Event Support & Training and Major Events teams. Following a public comment period held in July, the staff and Board evaluated proposals to determine final implementations and adjustments.
Consolidating the Stance Rules
Major changes to the Official Rules of Disc Golf include updates to the teeing area, stance, and regulated areas. The updates consolidate stance rules that were previously located in three separate places into a single location to make them easier for players to reference. This consolidation renders the definition of the “putting area” in rule 806.01 unnecessary, allowing that rule to be used instead to define the term “in bounds” and creating changes across various regulated areas.
Tabled Proposals
Several high-profile proposals were shelved and will not go into effect for the 2027 update. Tabled items include:
- Three proposals regarding how stance violations work from 10 to 20 meters.
- The proposed loosening of the dress code at Elite Series and Major events.
As the disc golf community looks ahead to the implementation date, it remains unstated whether any of the tabled proposals regarding putting, stance distances, or dress codes will be reconsidered for future revision cycles beyond 2027.
