Playing each other for more than a decade Perpetua up and down the island. Founded in Scotland in 2013, the quintet has since moved into explosive territory, largely dealing with melodic death and thrash, but also modern and progressive sounds. So far, two EPs have been released, there have been various headlining tours, support gigs and festival slots. With the album „Resurgence“ The really big success is now to follow, and the signs for it are anything but bad.

After a short but tasty intro, nine massive wrecking balls wait and dismantle everything into as many individual parts as possible. For example, there is “The Hell It Brings”, which has a video, which seems incredibly massive and even goes explosively forward at the right moments, caught between breakneck action and a rough death thrash groove. An ominous mood and a razor-sharp solo round off the proceedings. With “Overcome”, another harbinger leads us on the wrong track and initially seems to want to spread leaden malice. Over time the action picks up speed, the clear singing sends cold shivers down your spine.

There’s more of that in the final “Alone In The Static”, which is difficult to get going, but relies on great technical class and downright progressive elements before the thrash rotor starts spinning. Lots of ideas come together here and put a huge strain on your listening habits, but in a good way. “Trapped Mind” also does a really good job and hits the ground running from the first second. The angry sprinter with a melodic touch is really nasty and brutal. “Resolve” also has something of his furious style, raises his fists to the sky and serves modern thrash that thinks outside the box.

However, this album is only really strong in its entirety, because the massive musical wall that Perpetua boasts works best in one massive run. The roots in thrash and melodic death are always more than clear, although “Resurgence” is by no means satisfied with simply finding the intersection of both worlds. Increasing demands in the midst of real headbang parts meet complex acts of madness before things get bolder once again. The mixture offers brutal fare with heart and brain, which combines an incredible amount of energy with a certain routine – a more than well-rounded affair from start to finish.
