Phoenix Suns Close to Trade for Bradley Beal: Latest Updates and Trade Details

The Phoenix Suns are close to a trade for Washington Wizards all-star guard Bradley Beal. This is reported by several American media. Point guard Chris Paul, among others, is said to be leaving the Suns in exchange for Beal – but he may not be going to Washington.

According to ESPN, Beal’s trade package consists of CP3, Landry Shamet, and multiple second-round picks and pick swaps. Beal’s agent Mark Bertelstein confirmed that the framework for the trade was in place. The finalization could take a few days.

And that’s because the Wizards want to hear offers from other teams for Paul: According to the Bleacher Report, the Los Angeles Clippers want to try for the “Point God” – they had already played there from 2011 to 2017.

The 29-year-old Beal, who has been named to the All-Star team three times in his career, now forms a formidable new trio with the Suns alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Together with center Deandre Ayton, the Suns have four maximum contracts in the team: In the 2023/24 season alone, the four will earn a total of $163 million. The rest of the squad that is still to be filled will probably consist mainly of minimum contracts.

The Wizards, in turn, are starting a rebuild under new basketball boss Michael Winger. The franchise has missed the playoffs four times in the past five seasons. Franchise star Beal signed a new five-year, $251 million maximum contract in the summer of 2022, and Beal can activate the final season via a player option.

Overview: These NBA stars could also be traded

Beal was the most expensive player considered a realistic trade candidate this offseason. His last really strong season was two years ago due to injury, among other things, but Beal played almost at MVP level at the time with 31.3 points per game and 48.5 percent from the field. He had a no trade clause in his contract and therefore had to agree to a trade.

Four years and $207 million of his contract are now on Suns owner Mat Ishbia’s slip of paper. After buying the Suns last season, he immediately instigated a trade for Durant, but in the second round of the playoffs it was over against the eventual champion Denver Nuggets (2-4).
