Pierre Gasly has revealed the real reason behind his move to the Alpine F1 team.

Pierre Gasly will join the Alpine F1 team in 2023 to replace Fernando Alonso after spending more than five seasons in F1 with the Red Bull family, four and a half years at Scuderia AlphaTauri.

Despite signing a contract extension with Scuderia AlphaTauri until the end of 2023 in June this year, the Alpine F1 team was unable to hire reserve driver Oscar Piastri, leaving Pierre Gasly in October for Alpine. Red Bull has given me permission to join the F1 team.

Pierre Gasly has admitted he was allowed to leave Scuderia AlphaTauri in what was supposed to be his final season in 2023 due to the lack of a chance of a second promotion to Red Bull Racing.

Asked if he thought it was the right time for a move, Gasly said: “Yes, I think I’m definitely at that stage in my career, having gained experience over the last few years.”

“With Red Bull filling up until the end of 2024, it’s definitely time to move forward.”

“For me, it felt like I hit the ceiling and couldn’t go any higher. I told

“That’s not what I’m working for. It’s not a daily motivation. I need more, I want more. I think he (Franz Tost) understood.”

“When the opportunity presented itself, I explained to him how important it was to my career and to me personally. I gave my all for this team. I gave my absolute best.”
