Pixies Release Four Unearthed Tracks from ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe le Monde’ Eras

Pixies have released four previously unreleased tracks spanning their 1987 to 1991 recording eras on all digital streaming platforms for the first time, giving fans a fresh window into the sessions behind classic albums Bossanova and Trompe le Monde.

Four Rare Tracks Stream Across Digital Platforms

  • Four rare tracks from the Bossanova and Trompe le Monde eras are now streaming across all digital platforms.
  • The release includes an early Steve Albini-recorded version of “Dig For Fire” and a co-write with Kim Deal titled “Go Man Go.”
  • The band continues their 40th-anniversary momentum following 2024’s The Night The Zombies Came and upcoming 2027 tour plans.

Digging Into the 1987 Sessions

The newly available recordings first surfaced as bonus 7-inch singles bundled with limited-edition remastered vinyl pressings of Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. Among the four songs is an early Steve Albini version of “Dig For Fire,” captured in late 1987 during the foundational sessions for Surfer Rosa. That particular arrangement underwent significant changes before a reworked version finally landed on Bossanova nearly three years later, as nme.com reported.

Alongside the Albini cut sits “Punk Loop,” an unreleased jam captured in 1991 during the frantic studio blocks for Trompe le Monde and cataloged simply as “Punk Loop” MSTR. nme.com noted that the batch also features “Brackish Boy,” an early composition originally written with the Pixies before Black Francis reclaimed it for his self-titled 1993 solo debut under zero post-production constraints.

The Breeders Connection and Live Plans

Rounding out the four-track drop is “Go Man Go,” a collaborative co-writing effort between Black Francis and Kim Deal forged during simultaneous recording windows for the Pixies’ Bossanova and The Breeders’ seminal Last Splash. The track missed the final cut for both records, though The Breeders kept it alive through a handful of live performances before officially resurrecting it during their 30th-anniversary reissue of Last Splash in 2023.

The digital rollout arrives as the alternative rock pioneers cap off a sweeping year of 40th-anniversary celebrations, which included a robust UK and European festival run over the summer. Guitarist Joey Santiago spoke to nme.com about the band’s relentless creative output following their 2024 studio release, The Night The Zombies Came, which marked their first full-length with bassist Emma Richardson.

“We’re always in the works. Same formula,” Santiago said regarding the band’s writing process. Looking ahead to the live circuit, the band prepares to take their enduring catalog on the road across the United States alongside Queens Of The Stone Age in 2027.
