“Poehling excels at nothing” – Tortorella

The colorful head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, John Tortorella, made another tasty and candid statement on Thursday, ahead of a clash with the Montreal Canadiens.

Asked regarding former CH first-round pick Ryan Poehling, who is gaining ground with the Flyers, Tortorella admitted that there was nothing exceptional in the center player’s game.

“He doesn’t excel at anything,” he said. He’s not fantastic on the forecheck, but he gets by. He’s not a great scorer, but he can score from time to time. I like the consistency in his game. He was inserted into a trio that gives us momentum.”

Poehling has become, in his own way, an important element of the Pennsylvania team, leading the third line, at the center of Tyson Foerster and Garnet Hathaway.

“He deserved it with his progress throughout the season,” noted Tortorella, who really likes the striker. He started on the fourth line and, slowly, he made his place. I love his speed.”
