MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Post-Covid can cause the manifestation or exacerbation of more than 70 different diseases, as well as more than 200 symptoms. Allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok told TASS about this.
“Now there are more than 70 diseases that are associated with the post-Covid state, and there are more than 200 symptoms,” he said, noting that the diseases can be divided into three groups.
As the immunologist said, the first group includes somatic diseases, that is, those to which the person was predisposed. In this case, post-Covid may influence their exacerbation or occurrence. “For example, if a person had any diseases of the pancreas, liver, heart, gastrointestinal tract, they will worsen for him, and as a result of post-Covid he will have a tail of these diseases,” he added.
The second group includes diseases that manifest themselves due to a long-term inflammatory process associated with the nervous system, and the generalized state of a person with these disorders is called “brain fog,” Bolibok said. “This is a rather painful condition when a person’s consciousness does not work well, to the point that people lose some skills, for example, the skill of mental calculation. The person experiences foggy consciousness and begins to think very slowly,” he noted. According to the doctor, over the past four years of the coronavirus pandemic, the number of minor accidents on the roads has increased, as well as the number of violations, which, according to the immunologist, is also associated with impaired human cognitive functions against the background of post-Covid.
The third group of diseases is associated with blood clotting disorders and inflammation of the vascular bed, Bolibok said, noting that during the period of history, “for the first time, humanity has encountered an infection that causes inflammation of the inner lining of blood vessels.” Due to inflammation of this membrane, microthrombotic formations are formed throughout the vascular bed – in arterial, venous and capillary vessels, he added.

In addition, the types of post-Covid disorders are also affected by what strain a person was infected with. Thus, according to the immunologist, with the Wuhan and delta strains of coronavirus, thrombosis of large arteries occurred in large numbers in patients. “Surgeons then reported that in connection with this there was a huge number of amputations of limbs. Large vessels were thrombosed, and doctors no longer had time to do anything, that is, the person developed gangrene,” he said, noting that “sudden death,” stroke, heart attack and sudden pulmonary embolism are now common.
According to the doctor, inflammation of the inner lining of blood vessels affects the manifestation of both cognitive and somatic disorders, as well as the functioning of organs. “For example, the patient had chronic renal failure, which seemed to be compensated. He got sick with Covid, and his kidney completely failed,” the doctor explained.
“Vaccination helps prevent post-Covid conditions. That is, if a person is vaccinated, then the likelihood of developing a severe form of the disease and pronounced post-Covid consequences is much less than for those who are not vaccinated, this also applies to mortality,” Bolibok emphasized.
