nation

The president rejected the violent massacre.

In the early hours of this Wednesday, March 29, there was a new attack against the Military Forces at the hands of the ELN in the department of Norte de Santander.

On this occasion, a squad of soldiers, who were in the village of Villa Nueva, were attacked with homemade explosives. Indeed, nine soldiers were killed (seven in military service and two non-commissioned officers), and the incident also left more than a dozen wounded.

Given this, recently President Gustavo Petro spoke about it through Twitter where he stated his total rejection and lashed out against those who “today are absolutely far from peace.”

Around 3:00 am, the platoon found itself carrying out its protection work in the village of Villa Nueva, without expecting that, for some, this would be their last day alive. According to the authorities, members of the Camilo Torres front would be responsible for this massacre in the town of Guamalito. Once the information was known, support groups were transferred to the place, both by air and by land, to evacuate the wounded and counteract the criminals.

Among the fatalities of the attack are two non-commissioned officers and seven professional soldiers, who were identified as: Second Corporal Brayan Gómez Gamboa and Third Corporal Juan Benavides Bohórquez. The soldiers responded to the names of Kevin Acevedo Osorio, Hercel Fernández Bonivento; Johan Gómez Gelvez, José David Pushaina Epiayu; Fabio Epiayu Ipuana, Rafael Jiménez and Jaime Manuel Redondo Uriana.

While the wounded soldiers were identified as: Second Lieutenant Carlos Pacheco Pacheco, Álvaro Epieyu Epieyu, Arrieta de Armas, Adolfo Epieyu; Brayan Guerrero López, Gabriel Herrera Orozco, Luis Angarita Muñoz; Joselito Henríquez González and Yeison Julio Molina.

Additionally, the ex-president expressed his pain that Colombia has “abandoned security” and, in its place, this “had been replaced by the sinuous vanity of the Nobel Prize winner or by the pressure to ‘distance itself from Uribe.'”

“We must structure our security message”added Álvaro Uribe.

Likewise, in a second trill, Uribe Vélez proposed two paths between which, according to his reading, the country should reflect:

For his part, former presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez also appeared on social networks and described the violent massacre as a “setback” for Colombia.

“A government dedicated to drug trafficking and all criminal organizations. We are going to jump into the void without a parachute. ‘Total peace’ cannot mean surrendering the country“, argument.

For now, President Gustavo Petro has not made any further statements about this tragic event; one more that is added to others perpetrated by the ELN during the Government of the leader of the Historical Pact.
