Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, appeared this Tuesday afternoon at the mobilization that she called in the framework of the election of the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney of Honduras, in Tegucigalpa.

“We do not want anyone to steal our right to live in peace. We want a transparent state, without the corruption of public-private alliances. We want a country where social justice and law prevail. As head of state, as commander of the Armed Forces and the Police, and President of the Republic, barely a year and a half into the Government, to defend the constitutional order, which is once again threatened,” she began by saying

Libre militants came from different regions of Honduras.

“The National Congress is obliged to elect the authorities of the Public Ministry on the dates ordered,” the president extended.

“I have not lost hope in reaching consensus in the National Congress, despite the fact that they have a majority,” Castro continued, before thousands of members of the red and black political entity.

The president asked for consensus in the National Congress for the election of the prosecutor.

“Despite our efforts to achieve peace, despite my immense tolerance of enduring undeserved insults as a woman, I am forced to denounce before the world the conspiracy of organized crime and drug trafficking mafias to overthrow to my government,” Castro added.

Despite the evident lack of agreements, unofficially it is handled that Libre would present a motion so that the attorney general is the lawyer Johel Antonio Zelaya, and the deputy, the legal professional Marcio Cabañas Cadillo.

The pro-government proposal would be supported by the 50 Libre deputies and a small group of Liberal congressmen, however, it would not reach the necessary 86 votes (qualified majority) required for the election.

On the other hand, the opposition, mainly the National Party, would propose the lawyer Marcio Cabañas as attorney general and the lawyer Jenny Almendárez as deputy prosecutor, the latter being the best evaluated by the Proposing Board.

Nelson Márquez, a nationalist deputy, assured this Tuesday that they already have the nominative motion ready and that they are in talks with the Liberal Party and the Salvadoran Party of Honduras (PSH) to present it jointly.

The president denounced that there is a “conspiracy” against her government.
