Al-Marsad Newspaper: Cardiology consultant Dr. Khaled Al-Nimr revealed the prevalence of coronary artery disease in the Kingdom.
He said during an interview with Al-Arabiya TV: “Every era has an epidemic such as smallpox and German measles, and the epidemic of the current era is heart disease, from China in the east to America in the west.”
He continued, “We have 6% of society in general in Saudi Arabia suffering from heart disease and strokes, and 50% of those over 60 years old suffer from heart disease, and according to data from the Ministry of Health, 30% are at risk of heart attacks.”
He added, “The greater the health awareness of citizens about the importance of controlling diabetes and pressure, avoiding smoking, and the need to exercise, this will reduce the occurrence of strokes and complications from repeated catheters, and therefore medical awareness is important to reduce the problems of heart disease.”
