To avoid any risk of transmission of dengue fever via tiger mosquitoes, a mosquito control operation will take place on the night of Wednesday October 4 to Thursday October 5 in the districts of Hautepierre in Strasbourg and Prévert in Oberhausbergen.

You will have to stay at home and close the windows. A mosquito control operation will take place in the districts of Hautepierre in Strasbourg and Prévert in Oberhausbergen on the night of Wednesday October 4 to Thursday October 5, announced the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

This treatment takes place after the discovery of a case of dengue fever in a person who has recently traveled to a tropical country. She frequented these two neighborhoods during the period when the virus was present in her blood. This means that a tiger mosquito biting this person could then infect others.

Residents of the Hautepierre (Strasbourg) and Prévert (Oberhausbergen) districts will therefore have to take precautionary measures during the operation. They are called by the ARS to stay inside buildings, close the windows during the intervention, rinse garden furniture with water or bring in the animal bowls“.

This insecticide treatment aims “to destroy and prevent the proliferation of tiger mosquitoes potentially carrying the disease”, writes the ARS in a press release. This procedure is only used in case of DengueZika and Chikungunya.

“The implementation of this treatment is a usual procedure which makes it possible to respond to a major public health issue in order to avoid any transmission of the disease”, explains the Regional Health Agency.

“Preventing mosquito bites is the best way to avoid contracting dengue fever.”

The ARS advises, for example, wearing long clothes, using mosquito nets, spirals or anti-mosquito sprays. To limit their spread, it is also advisable to regularly empty stagnant water in flower pots or watering cans, for example.

Dengue is a disease transmitted to humans by the tiger mosquito. The most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea and rash. Most patients have mild symptoms and recover within one to two weeks, but some develop a severe form and may be hospitalized.
