Prince Nikolai of Denmark is ‘confused’ by his grandmother’s decision, Queen Margrethe II, who said his grandson and three siblings should renounce their royal title, Mother.
Some time ago, the Royal Danish Palace announced that the children of Prince Joachim, Queen Margrethe’s second son, no longer have the title of prince, princess, or ‘Your Majesty’, Mother. This regulation comes into effect on January 1, 2023.
The 23-year-old Nikolai, along with his three brothers, Felix (20 years), Henrik (13 years) and Athena (10 years), will be known as His Highness the Count of Monpezat or His Highness the Countess of Monpezat. They will remain in position 7 to 10 of the royal succession in line to the throne.
Launching from the page People, Nikolai said he was very sad and confused. Not only that, he was also very surprised by this decision.
“The whole family and I are, of course, very sad,” he said.
“We, as my parents have also stated, are shocked by this decision and how quickly it will completely go away. I am very confused as to why it had to happen like this,” continued Nikolai.
Nikolai himself is a model who has brought many world famous brands such as Dior, Bunda. He also said that he was only informed of the decision a few days before the news was published.
“I haven’t counted the days, but not more than a week ago,” he explained.
Nikolai and his younger brother, Felix, are the sons of Prince Joachim by his first wife, Alexandra, Countess pf Frederiksborg. Prince Joachim remarried Princess Marie in 2008 and Henrik and Athena were born.
Just like Nikolai, Prince Joachim, too, expressed the same feelings as his eldest son, Mother. He also admitted that he was very sad and did not want his children to be in a situation they did not understand.
“We are all very sad. It is never nice to see your children being abused like that. They find themselves in a situation they don’t understand,” Prince Joachim said.
