There have been reports that a private plane heading to Russia crashed in a remote area of northeastern Afghanistan. There were a total of six people on board the private plane, including the crew, and it was reported that among them were a couple of famous businessmen from southern Russia. The fate of the passengers is not yet known.

According to Archyde.com and TASS on the 21st (local time), an aircraft crashed the day before in Zebak, Badakhshan Province, a mountainous region about 250km northeast of the Afghan capital, Kabul. Zabihullah Amiri, a government spokesman in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, said on this day, “We have dispatched a rescue team and are conducting a search.”

It was discovered that the plane that crashed was a ‘Falcon 10B’ jet manufactured in 1978 and was heading from Thailand to Russia for personal medical evacuation. It is said that it was scheduled to refuel at Gaya Airport in Bihar, India and then head to Moscow Zhukovsky International Airport.

All six people on board, including the crew, were Russian nationals, including Anatoly Evshkov, a famous entrepreneur from southern Volgodonsk, and his wife. It is said that they visited Thailand on the 15th of last month for a vacation, and three days later, when the wife contracted an infectious disease, they tried to hastily enter Russia via her private plane. It is reported that the son, who visited Thailand with him, has now returned home via a regular flight.

Russian media outlet SHOT reported a video believed to contain the circumstances at the time of the crash. In it, explosions were heard one after another from a point near the top of the mountain, and smoke was seen rising. However, Archyde.com reported that “the details shared by SHOT could not be immediately confirmed.”

The specific cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Abdul Wahid Raian, a spokesman for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Information and Culture, only responded to a related question by saying, “It’s an engine problem.” Russia’s TASS news agency also reported, citing local sources, that “the aircraft appears to have crashed due to a technical defect in two engines.”
