Ubisoft has not officially announced the cancellation of the Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel – this, judging by media reports, was due to the desire of the French publisher to focus on the Assassin’s Creed series. The new data, which the developers provided to Axios editor Steven Totilo, tells what kind of game was planned. So, its codename was Project Oxygen, and it wasn’t supposed to be a direct sequel, but rather a spin-off. The events of the game would have unfolded in the same world, but they were supposed to tell not about Greek, but about Polynesian mythology and culture. At the same time, Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker were used as the main gameplay landmarks, and not the original Fenyx Rising: The game was supposed to be large-scale, and its action unfolded on a huge archipelago inspired by Hawaii, New Zealand and Easter Island; The hero by his actions had to “change the world with his actions”, as well as carry out the tasks of the gods, while learning to control the elements and turn into various creatures; The map, although large and open, had to do without a huge number of markers and points of interest. The players had to look for entertainment with the help of the environment: for example, orienting themselves by the stars or the direction of the wind; It was also decided to abandon the stylized picture, voice-over narrator and a huge number of puzzles that were in the original Immortals. One of the reasons why the game was eventually canceled was precisely the scale and its dissimilarity to Fenyx Rising. The demo, which was prepared for Ubisoft by the development team, was made only in the spring of 2023, and it is not clear how satisfied the management was with it.
