Promotion, transmission of know-how… What are the objectives for LVMH’s house of “trades of excellence”?

How can we preserve and transmit the know-how exercised within the LVMH house? Guest of the show France is moving Tuesday evening, Alexandre Boquel, director of professions of excellence within the French luxury giant, revealed the outlines of a project unveiled this Tuesday by the company. In the center of Paris, a building more than a century old as well as an old stable are being redeveloped to accommodate, by the end of 2025, the house of professions of excellence.

Concretely, the building will host workshops, open to the public, focused on these famous professions that are sometimes little-known, even forgotten, and yet essential to ensure LVMH’s activity. “Leather goods, couture, watchmaking, jewelry…”, he lists. In total, the group has identified 280 professions that it intends to perpetuate and pass on to new generations. This house of professions of excellence is part of this objective. “This promotion requires a dialogue with the general public,” believes Alexandre Boquel.

“We don’t talk about it enough”

According to him, these professions suffer from a lack of exposure, particularly in the educational sphere. “We don’t talk about it enough. In college for example, I think that young people don’t really know these professions.”, regrets the person concerned, supporting his point with an anecdote. “A young man discovered a Hublot watch and he couldn’t imagine how much time it took to make a watch. He thought it could be done in a day,” he says.

Through this house and these workshops allowing you to “experience a gesture”, Alexandre Boquel has a double objective. That of transmitting know-how, but also shedding light on the reality of the work hidden behind each luxury product sold by LVMH. “It’s a gesture that has been worked on for centuries, polished, repeated to achieve a form of virtuosity and identity that we must keep.” An attachment to manual work which is not synonymous with rejection of modernity. “We must not stop ourselves from innovating.innovation, we must not block it, we just need to know how to use it,” concludes Alexandre Boquel.
