Propaganda war: China tries to pass off the purchasing power demonstration as a protest against NATO

China, an indirect supporter of Russia, tried to make people believe that the demonstration in Brussels against purchasing power on Monday June 20 was a protest march against the decisions taken at NATO level. Some of the images used dated from an earlier event.

Tens of thousands of protesters marched through Brussels on June 20 shouting Stop NATO”, the Global Times, a Chinese state media outlet, tweeted on Thursday. The tweet was accompanied by a 30-second video effectively showing thousands of protesters wearing two Belgian union colors (red and green). It quickly went viral, to the point that even the usually more reserved Foreign Office issued a corrective tweet. “Fake. This is what we call misinformation. The Brussels protest on Monday June 20 was asking for more buying power and was in NO WAY directed against NATO or our support for Ukraine in the Russian-led war.”
