This Tuesday the oral trial began against the leader of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM), Héctor Llaitul, for the crimes of inciting violence and attacking authority, for which the Prosecutor’s Office is requesting 25 years in prison.

The event will last for 29 days from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This Tuesday, opening arguments were presented, regional prosecutor Roberto Garrido, Llaitul’s defense and the accused spoke, who again accused a historical persecution by certain prosecutors in the region of La Araucanía.

The request of the Public Ministry “is based on what we estimate that we have managed to prove during the investigation, which are several crimes, some sanctioned in the State Security Law, such as incitement to acts of violence and incitement thereof, and other related to theft, usurpation and attacks against authority,” he explained.

The sum of these behaviors would eventually determine “the application of a 25-year sentence, but at this stage what seems most important to us is that it is a technical accusation. “We have managed to gather elements of evidence that from our point of view prove the facts that support the investigation.”
