PSG’s Dominant Victory in Champions Trophy: A Decisive Start to the New Season

Last June, PSG won their 10th French championship title against Nantes, after a close match. Saturday in Cesson-Sévigné, the two teams met for the Champions Trophy, which also launched the new season. But the scenario was quite different. Paris won this time in the big widths (35-25) against Nantes, holders of the Coupe de France.

PSG quickly distanced themselves (9-5, 12th) and kept this gap of four goals at the break (17-13). The champions of France, however, had to do without Elohim Prandi, their left back, hit in the groin. And, on returning from the locker room, Nantes was threatening, returning to two lengths (17-15).

First Champions Trophy in four years for PSG

But Nikola Karabatic and his partners did not let themselves be disturbed and quickly moved forward, moving away with the score (23-17) and putting K.-O. the Nantes team. Paris counted up to 12 goals in advance (35-23) before going to get their first trophy of the season. PSG had not won this title for four years (no Champions Trophy in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 and defeat last year against … Nantes).

Kamil Syprzak, the Polish pivot of Paris, was the best scorer of the meeting with his seven goals. It is therefore with complete peace of mind that PSG will approach the first day of Liqui Moly Starligue, Thursday (8 p.m.) against Limoges. For its part, Nantes will go next Saturday to Saint-Raphaël, hoping that its clear defeat will not have left too many traces.
