Putin and UAE President Discuss Collaboration on Russian Industrial Zone in Egypt and the UAE

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists circulated on social media, on Friday, a video clip of a conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the Russian city of St. Petersburg about establishing a Russian industrial zone in Egypt.

According to the video, Putin said: “There is a promising project with regard to Egypt, the establishment of an industrial zone there, and we have an idea about establishing such a zone in the UAE, and I believe with the help of our friends we can achieve this.”

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed responded by suggesting that cooperation in the project be joint between Russia, Egypt and the UAE, pointing out that the UAE has many investments in Egypt.

The Russian president said, “We can discuss this issue with President (Egyptian Abdel Fattah) El-Sisi.”

It is noteworthy that the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that Putin and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan “discussed bilateral relations and regional issues” during the meeting in St. Petersburg.

During the meeting, the Emirati and Russian presidents reviewed the path of the UAE-Russian relations in light of the strategic partnership between the two countries, and affirmed keenness to move forward in developing these relations, according to WAM.

The UAE agency quoted Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed affirming the UAE’s “steadfast approach to supporting peace and stability on the regional and international arenas, and political solutions to disputes and conflicts, including the Ukrainian crisis, through de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy,” noting “the importance of intensifying efforts to mitigate the humanitarian repercussions.” to the crisis, and support initiatives to exchange prisoners for both sides.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also affirmed “the UAE’s keenness to build bridges of cooperation and establish partnerships with the Federal Republic of Russia and various countries of the world in a way that enhances common interests and achieves development and prosperity for all,” according to the UAE agency.

The Emirati president said, through his official account on Twitter: “I met with President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg…we discussed tracks of cooperation between the UAE and Russia, international and regional issues of common interest, and the importance of political solutions to the Ukrainian crisis…the UAE’s approach is to build bridges of cooperation and dialogue with everyone to serve everyone.” Peace and prosperity in the world.”

And the Russian news agency (Tass) reported that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Putin held talks in St. Petersburg, explaining that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

For his part, Putin expressed his “gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for its assistance in addressing humanitarian issues, including the exchange of detainees, during the events in Ukraine,” according to what was reported by Tass.

Putin told the UAE president: “I would like to thank you for your efforts in addressing humanitarian issues during the events in Ukraine, the events related to the exchange of detainees, and the resolution of a number of other humanitarian issues of this kind.”

Putin also added that “Russia is fully complying with its climate obligations and is taking the relevant steps even ahead of schedule, unlike other countries,” according to what was reported by Tass.

“Unlike many other countries, we are fulfilling all our obligations in this area to the fullest extent. We are ahead of the schedule in this regard,” the Russian president stressed, according to (Tass).

Putin noted that “Russia has adopted a number of laws in this area, forcing companies to comply with environmental regulations.”
