Putin: Macron’s accusations of igniting the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan are unacceptable

The Russian President confirms his country’s rejection of the French President’s accusations against Russia of trying to “ignite conflict” between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and stresses the need to strengthen economic relations between the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements about accusing Russia of trying to “ignite conflict” between Azerbaijan and Armenia are “incorrect and unacceptable.”

In his speech at the CIS summit in Kazakhstan, he said: “I was surprised to read some of the French president’s statements yesterday… I think they lack an understanding of the course of the conflict,” stressing that “Russia always sincerely seeks to settle any conflict, including in Karabakh.”

“It seems Macron has no information about the position of the parties in Baku and Yerevan. Therefore, the statements seemed incorrect, and I would even say that they are unacceptable,” he continued.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan accused, on Friday, the French president of “taking sides with Armenia” in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

It is noteworthy that Macron, earlier, accused Russia of trying to “ignite conflict” between Baku and Yerevan.

The Russian president stressed “the need to make every effort to find a way out of the crisis in the CIS region, and to benefit from goodwill in resolving any disputes and disagreements in the CIS sphere.”

In this context, Putin invited, on Friday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, to “visit Russia and hold talks on the border dispute between the two countries.”

Putin also stressed that “economic exchange has expanded between the CIS countries, despite the sanctions,” and that “the volume of trade exchange increased by 7% in the first half of this year.”

Putin invited the leaders of all CIS member countries to meet in St. Petersburg in 2023.
