Queen Camilla was crowned by wearing Queen Mary’s crown, which was moved from the Tower of London to adjust its size in preparation for today’s coronation ceremony.
In a move intended to honor the late Queen Elizabeth II, the tiara was re-set with diamonds from her personal jewelry collection, known as the Cullinan 3, 4 and 5..
And the late queen used to put these diamonds in a brooch, which was discovered in South Africa.
It is believed to be the first time in “modern history” that an ancient crown has been “recycled” for a coronation ceremony.
Laying the crown on Camilla’s head, Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, said, “May your servant Camilla, who wears this crown, be filled with your abundant grace and with all royal virtues; reign in her heart, O King of Love, so that she may be crowned with your grace while trusting in your protection. In Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.“
