[Reporter Zhang Xunteng/Miaoli Report]60-year-old Mr. Qiu from Miaoli County has suffered from liver cirrhosis and liver cirrhosis for many years. He regularly tracked and controlled liver diseases in the Department of Hepatobiliary Medicine, Miaoli Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Considering multiple factors such as the disease, the family members decided to first adopt transarterial embolization to control the condition. However, during the follow-up examination a few days ago, it was found that the liver cancer had recurred. After the evaluation by the hospital, the patient was arranged to receive radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatment.

Chen Yanjie, a surgeon at Miaoli Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, pointed out that in the curative treatment of liver tumors, liver tumor resection and liver tumor ablation are the current mainstream methods. Compared with tumor resection, ablation uses heat energy generated by radio frequency or microwave to achieve the effect of tumor ablation without sacrificing too much normal liver tissue, and can position and insert needles through extracorporeal ultrasound to avoid the risks caused by general anesthesia. If the angle factor makes it impossible to insert needles outside the body (for example, the ribs block the needles outside the body), laparoscopic surgery can also be used to perform tumor ablation with laparoscopic ultrasound positioning.

Chen Yanjie said that patients treated by radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can effectively and completely ablate without remaining tumor cells. Compared with surgical resection, liver tumor ablation is a minimally invasive interventional therapy, and it also has the advantages of small wounds, less bleeding, and faster recovery. However, not all liver cancer patients are suitable for this new treatment method. However, to be treated with radiofrequency ablation, one must:

●Liver tumor 3-5 cm.

●The number of liver tumors does not exceed 3.

●No other organ metastasis.

● No serious blood or clotting problems.

Li Minghui, Director of Miaoli Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, reminded that there are many hepatitis patients in Taiwan, but because the liver is a silent organ, many people will neglect to receive treatment. Hepatitis B and C are important pathogens of liver cancer. After being infected with hepatitis B and C, one Some of them will become chronic hepatitis, and some of the chronic hepatitis will develop into liver cirrhosis, and finally a few will develop into liver cancer. From chronic hepatitis to liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, this is the so-called trilogy of liver diseases.
