The legendary metallers from Rage have long been cult and have won over a large number of fans over their long history. In their almost 40-year career, they have accumulated a total of 25 albums. Reason enough to come along Afterlifelines to release a 26th one where everything will be different than what we have previously known from the Herner band. Because for the anniversary they are serving us a double album with 21 songs that has a lot to offer.

The album is stylistically perfect first of all by the tracks In The Beginning and In The End enclosed. And on the first real song things really get down to business: End Of Illusions is a classic Rage-Song that picks up speed and heaviness in the verses, which leads to a melodic chorus that will be fondly remembered.

An incredibly important voice

This pattern runs through the album and is repeated here and there. Under A Black Crown, listens HERE, perfects this in a chorus whose hook will remain in the memory of some listeners for a particularly long time as a catchy tune. Particularly noteworthy is the voice of Peavy Wagnerwho often manages to give the songs a very special touch of melody and characteristics. Dead Man’s Eyes places an even stronger focus on the heaviness, both in music and in voice.

It is exactly this voice that is used in the next song Mortal gives a very dark and brutal atmosphere. Musically there are also top-class riffs to enjoy. As an example, here is the brilliant intro Toxic Waves referred! And the second CD also begins musically interestingly with an intro from classical music Cold Desire.

Musical change

The second CD also shows a slightly different side of the band in other ways. It will, for example, on Root Of Our Evil, paying less attention to heaviness and more to melodic rhythms and riffs. The almost ten-minute orchestral epic must also be a special highlight Lifelines be called what Rage presented to us towards the end of the album and becomes really powerful again towards the end.

And that’s exactly how it was intended: singer Peavy says himself that the second CD was specially recorded with an orchestral arrangement and thus has a very special touch. Lyrically it also has something similar to its predecessor Ressurrection Day oriented, but thinks the topics a little further, and sings above all about the possible downfall of all humanity. And every fan can already look forward to one thing: in 2024 there will again be a variety of chances to see the new, but also many old, pieces live, because Rage is going on a big European tour again!

Conclusion
Rage
bid on Afterlifelines a 90-minute epic with classic rage songs as we know and love them, but also good orchestral numbers recorded with the right ensemble. The trio shows again and again how well they fit together and what musical talents lie dormant within them. The record is fun and is another highlight in the band’s large catalog. 9 / 10
