A convicted serial rapist serving a life sentence in the UK could face additional charges after the Metropolitan Police passed a file involving seven more women to the Crown Prosecution Service. Meanwhile, in Michigan, a Dearborn resident faces potential amended charges following a fatal family altercation.
Criminal justice proceedings in two different jurisdictions highlight ongoing investigations into violent offenders and fatal assaults. In the United Kingdom, authorities are reviewing new allegations against an offender, while Michigan investigators prepare to submit an escalated case to prosecutors following a weekend death.
New Assault Allegations and CPS Review for Zhenhao Zou
Zhenhao Zou, a convicted serial rapist currently serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years, could face further charges after fresh allegations involving seven more women were passed to prosecutors. Zou was previously found guilty of drugging and raping 10 women in London and China between September 2019 and May 2023.
Following his conviction, police appealed for other potential victims to come forward. The Metropolitan Police subsequently sent a file to the Crown Prosecution Service, which will decide whether to bring additional charges. According to the Met Police, the new file includes evidence of rape and administering a substance with intent to commit a sexual offence.
Police reported that five women contacted authorities following the public appeal, alongside two other women who remain unidentified. Although 23 women reached out in total, most chose not to pursue criminal charges. Separate inquiries remain active regarding alleged assaults in China, with officers working alongside Chinese authorities to obtain evidence.
Fatal Family Altercation on Theisen Street in Dearborn
Across the Atlantic, law enforcement officials in Michigan are reviewing a fatal domestic incident. A 43-year-old resident of Dearborn, Michigan, accused of assaulting a 64-year-old man, faces potential additional or amended charges after the victim died three days after the incident.
The altercation occurred on Wednesday evening at a home located on the 6500 block of Theisen Street. Responding officers discovered the older man seriously injured following what police described as an altercation between two family members
inside the residence.
Arraignment and Bond Details in the Dearborn Investigation
Emergency medical personnel treated the injured man at the scene before transporting him to a hospital. Online court records show that the 43-year-old suspect was initially charged with one count each of assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder following a police investigation.
During his arraignment on Thursday, a judge set bond at $500,000 cash or surety. Police confirmed that the victim died from his injuries on Saturday. As of Sunday, the suspect was being held at the Wayne County Jail.
Prosecutorial Review and Next Legal Steps
The progression of both cases now rests with prosecuting authorities. In the UK, the Crown Prosecution Service will evaluate the Met Police file to determine if formal charges will be filed against Zou. Meanwhile, the Dearborn Police Department is preparing its updated findings for submission to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, where officials will weigh amended charges in light of the victim’s death.
