Following a violent attack in London’s West End, the Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent manhunt after a woman in her 20s was dragged into a doorway and raped in Covent Garden. Investigators have released CCTV footage in an appeal for public assistance to identify the suspect.
The Timeline of the Covent Garden Attack
The victim was targeted in the early hours of Saturday, August 22, 2026. According to the Metropolitan Police, the woman was walking through Shaftesbury Avenue, Cambridge Circus, and Drury Lane when she was approached by an unknown man. At approximately 5:20 a.m., the assailant dragged her into a doorway along Macklin Street and subjected her to a sexual assault.
Despite the trauma of the attack, the victim managed to flee the scene. She filed a report with local law enforcement shortly afterward and is currently receiving specialized care.
CCTV Evidence and Suspect Description
As part of the active search, detectives from the Metropolitan Police have gathered and published surveillance footage tracking a person of interest. Investigators are working to trace a man captured on camera in the vicinity of Lisle Street and Drury Lane around the time of the incident.
During the attack, he was wearing a grey hoodie paired with a dark gilet, casual trousers, and trainers.
Because the tourist hotspot was exceptionally busy at that hour, authorities believe numerous potential witnesses walked past the area.
