WWE presented its PLE ”Payback” 2023 on September 2nd live from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The event was broadcast on the WWE Network.
– The WWE Payback 2023 Pre-Show begins with the panel consisting of Jackie Redmond, Wade Barrett, Booker T, Kayla Braxton and Peter Rosenberg welcoming us. The panel discusses the evening’s matches.
– During the presentation of the match Miz against LA Knight, it is announced that John Cena will be the special referee of the confrontation.
– Grayson Waller returns to the panel to talk about his segment. Waller says Cody Rhodes will have a big newz and he decided to do it on his talk show.
– The Pre-Show ends with the last comments from the panel.
WWE Pittsburgh, Pennsylvanie

– Tonight is WWE Payback, the special show starts with the opening video and the cage goes down to the ring for the first match. We see a video of the rivalry between Becky and Trish.
– We present NXT champion Tiffany Stratton who is ringside for the match.
Steel Cage Match
Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus
At the end of the fight, Stratus does a Widow’s Peak on Becky and covers her, but she resists. Stratus wants to do his finisher on Becky, but Becky knocks her down in Twist of Fate and covers her, but she resists two. Stratus dodges a corner jump from Becky and Stratusfactions her to cover, but Becky resists two. Stratus climbs on the cage, Becky gets up to stop him. The two clash on the cables, Stratus does his third rope Stratusfaction to her to cover her, but she resists two. Stratus starts climbing the cage again, but Becky gets up and stops him. The two face off at the top of the cage, Becky manages to Superplex him from the top of the cage. Becky covers her, but Stratus resists two. Becky climbs to the top of the cage, Stratus crawls towards the door, Becky descends to stop Stratus. Zoey Stark arrives and wants to pull Stratus out. Becky manages to keep Stratus in the ring, Stark knocks the door on her. Stratus rolls Becky up, but she resists. Becky follows up with a Man Handle Slam on Stratus and covers her, but Stark breaks the count! Stark and Becky exchange blows. Becky does a Man Handle Slam on Stark. Stratus goes up top meanwhile, but Becky stops him and gives him a Man Handle Slam off the top rope for the three count.

– After the fight, Becky celebrates the victory and leaves backstage. Zoey Stark wants to help Trish Stratus up, but Trish refuses her help. Trish slaps Zoey Stark and tells her to get out. Stark closes the cage door to lock himself in with Stratus. Stark makes his Z360 on Stratus !
– We present a video about the rivalry between Nakamura and Rollins.
– John Cena, the host of the evening, arrives in the ring. John Cena says it was an awesome first game. He’s done a lot in 20 years, first game, last game, an opponent, a champion, a doctor, a prototype, but he’s never been a host. He discovered that his job as host is to make this evening special. He can make this night special by being the special referee for the match between LA Knight and The Miz. The Miz’s music starts and he arrives. The Miz says he didn’t expect that from John Cena: wanting to please the audience like that. As a host, John Cena is terrible. Cena says Miz has a lot of experience as a host, does he have any advice? Miz says not to put himself as a special referee in his match. Cena says it was his only idea. Miz says when you get called to get a spot on Barbie you say no. Cena says he doesn’t like the Miz, but he still has a lot of respect for him. He wants help, he wants advice. Miz says he hosted a lot, from MizTV to being the best WrestleMania host in history. Cena needs to be more involved, he was in at least two games besides hosting. Cena says he understands. Miz asks him what he’s wearing. He was in a suit that cost tens of thousands of dollars and Cena is still in Teletubbies after all these years. Cena understands. Miz says he has to take charge of the show. Cena says he could start off as the special referee for the Miz match? Miz replies ”no”. Miz says Cena doesn’t even have a referee jersey. A technician brings the jersey to Cena. Cena says he has his referee’s jersey on, which is a plus for hosting Payback. Then he will be the special referee for the match. Miz tells him no and Cena says yes, over and over again. LA Knight enters the ring.
Singles Match
Special Referee: John Cena
The Miz vs LA Knight
At the end of the fight, Miz does a quick count to Knight with puts her on a rope, but Cena pushes Miz’s arm away. Miz and Cena argue. Knight wants to take advantage of it with his finisher, but Miz avoids it. Knight wants to punch Miz, but Miz dodges and Knight nearly touches Cena. Miz takes the opportunity to do his Skull Crushing Finale on Knight and covers him, but he resists two. Miz decides to copy the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Knight blocks it with a Body Slam. Knight Elbow Drops Miz and follows up with his BFT for the three count.
Winner: LA Knight
– After the fight, Knight celebrates his victory. Cena and Knight then face off on stage. Cena invites him to shake his hand as a sign of respect, Knight accepts.

United States Championship – Singles Match
Austin Theory vs Rey Mysterio (c)
At the end of the fight, Rey launches from the corner, but Theory grabs him on his shoulders and spins a Powerbomb at him to cover, but he resists two. Theory mistakes Rey for his finisher, but Rey blocks him. The two trade blows. Rey pushes him back on the second rope and gives him a 619. Rey launches into Splash, but Theory blocks it with his knees. Theory lifts Rey for his ATL, but Rey knocks him down on a quick count for the three.
Gagnant : Rey Mysterio
– Behind the scenes, Cathy is with Becky Lynch to find out what awaits her next after Trish Stratus. Tiffany Stratton (NXT Champion) arrives saying they got off to a bad start. When she said she was the best champion by naming other champions to support her statement, she had forgotten that Becky had never been a champion. She wants to apologize for naming her champion. Becky says Stratton should focus on her title defense on Tuesday. They may see each other again soon.
WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship – Pittsburgh Steel City Street Fight
Kevin Owens et Sami Zayn (c) vs Finn Balor et Damian Priest
At the end of the fight, Dominik intervenes again in the match, Owens lays him down on a table, climbs into the stands and launches a Swanton Bomb through the table! Back in the ring, Sami’s Helluva Kick is blocked by a trash can. Balor covers it, but Sami resists. Priest lifts Sami for a two-man tackle, but Sami pushes the two away and Exploders Priest. Zayn pushes Balor back through a table at the bottom of the ring. Zayn follows up with a Helluva Kick on Priest, but Priest blocks it. Owens comes back and Stuns Priest! Zayn follows up with his Helluva Kick to cover it, but JD McDonagh breaks the count! McDonagh pushes Zayn back onto the post. Owens attacks McDonagh and Powerbombs him on the commentary table. Rhea Ripley arrives and spears Owens through the barricade! Balor makes a Slingbalde on Sami and a Drop Kick against the corner. Balor goes for a Coup de Grace and Sami avoids it. Sami continues with an Exploder Suplex to Balor. Sami follows up with a Helluva Kick to cover it, but Dominik breaks the count with the briefcase. Balor puts his arm on Zayn for the three.
Winners: Judgment Day – New Champions
– After the fight, Judgment Day celebrates the victory together.
– It’s time to Grayson Waller Effect. Grayson Waller is in the ring to welcome us to his talk show. Waller says his guest and the city of Pittsburgh have so much in common. Neither can finish their story. Waller introduces us to Cody Rhodes who arrives in the ring. Cody was going to ask what they want to talk about, but Waller cuts him off by saying no one wants Pittsburgh’s opinion. It’s the Waller Effect and the only thing that matters is what it decides. He wants to talk about big newz Cody Rhodes. Cody has had so many ups and especially so many downs. He appreciates having Cody on his show, because he knows Cody needs his help for the start of something big. Cody says he knows Waller is new, so he’s probably studied all the old shows. Surely Waller will say mean things to him, the two will get up and fight. Waller says that won’t happen, he’s not going to fight in front of those beautiful plants. Cody says he asked to be on the Waller Effect, so thanks for the chance. In exchange he wants to give her a big newz. Waller probably watches RAW and NXT. Does he watch SmackDown too? Waller approves for all three. Cody says SmackDown is intriguing, he saw something that needs to be fixed. He hopes it won’t be a decision he will regret, he cashed in all his chips for it, here comes the new RAW wrestler… Jey Uso! Jey Uso enters the ring. Cody leaves backstage and meets Jey.
Waller says Jey is gone for like two weeks, what a great newz with the new RAW Superstar. How is Jey feeling? The thing is, Jey has been a twin all his life, surrounded by the Bloodline. A success as a team, but solo Jey did absolutely nothing. So Cody comes here and Jey thinks he’s a RAW star. If anyone needs the elevation of the Waller Effect that’s fine…. Jey Uso Superkicks him and poses in the ring.
– We present a video about the rivalry between Ripley and Raquel.
WWE Women’s World Championship – Singles Match
Raquel Rodriguez vs Rhea Ripley (c)
At the end of the fight, Dominik Mysterio wants to interfere in the match, but Rodriguez pushes him away with a Slam. Ripley takes the opportunity to hit Rodriguez in the back and makes him his Riptide for the count of three.

– Behind the scenes, John Cena says he continues his role as host with this interview. He introduces us to the new team champions. Finn Balor says the champions are HERE! John Cena asks for their reaction to the fact that they seem to be united tonight. Damian Priest says no one can stop Judgment Day like this. They are the Tag Team, MITB, North American and Women’s Champions. The JD is always at the top. Balor says it’s time to go celebrate.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship – Singles Match
Seth Rollins (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
At the end of the fight, the two trade blows, Rollins punches harder. Rollins gets on the corner, but Nakamura gets up and kicks him. Nakamura gives him a Package Slam from the corner to cover him, but he resists two. Nakamura makes a Kinshasa on Rollins. Nakamura prepares for a second Kinshasa, but Rollins remains on the ground. Nakamura picks Rollins up and starts pummeling him, the ref stops him. Rollins takes the opportunity to block Nakamura with a Pedigree. Rollins launches into Stomp, but Nakamura blocks him. Both want to do a quick count, but it’s stuck. Rollins stomps and covers for the win.

– The show ends with a celebration of Seth Rollins.
