The Korea Construction Living Environment Testing and Research Institute (KCL) announced on the 14th that it had signed a related business agreement with TUV Rhineland Korea, a German testing and certification agency, at KCL’s Seocho office building in Seoul.

With this MOU as an opportunity, KCL decided to be designated as the first domestic testing laboratory in the field of TUV rhineland fire.

For domestic battery companies such as Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution, and SK On to export batteries and ESSs to Europe, they had to request tests and certifications from local certification agencies overseas.

KCL explained that the agreement was signed to improve the international competitiveness of domestic companies while safety test and certification in the US and Europe are being strengthened due to successive domestic and international ESS fire accidents.

KCL plans to open the world’s largest ESS fire safety verification center in Samcheok Fire and Disaster Prevention Industrial Zone in Gangwon-do within this year. It will be equipped with the world’s largest fire calorimeter measuring 30 megawatts (MW) and a large-scale fire extinguishing performance testing device.

KCL President Cho Young-tae said, “We will test the ESS produced in Korea in line with US and European standards and provide prompt overseas certification services to support the improvement of international competitiveness of domestic companies.”
