Redemption Road, the latest early access update

The Redemption Road update prepares for the end of Darkest Dungeon 2 Early Access.

Before the arrival of the full version for May 8 on PC (Epic Games Store / Steam), the hardcore rogue-like RPG Darkest Dungeon 2 from Red Hook Studios is getting a final update for its early access. Redemption Road “reorganizes and reworks the game’s map traversal systems to add strategic depth and simplify controls.”

Redemption Road, between movement system and road structuring for Darkest Dungeon 2

The Stagecoach in Darkest Dungeon 2 now comes with Armor and Wheel Tokens that must be manually replenished at an Inn or found in certain encounters. Keeping both leveled up gives players a nice advantage, while exhausting them exposes them to potential ambushes. There are also new road types, which can deplete armor and wheel tokens, and a random event that requires you to urgently repair the carriage or face an ambush on the side of the road where , each turn, one of the heroes must focus on repairing the carriage rather than engaging in combat. This means that players are forced to face raiders at a considerable disadvantage.

Stagecoach controls and intersection operation have also been slightly improved. Now, if players decide their route quickly, they can take the turn without slowing down. On the other hand, if they are late, the stagecoach stops at the intersection, giving you time to choose your path more carefully. The update features many other improvements, including a whole host of balancing changes. The disgust system has also been extensively overhauled. This now grows when players pass through Tears of Oblivion or visit locations affected by the Dark World, but decreases during combat. If the disgust reaches its maximum, players will have to face the Confession boss, whose effects vary depending on your choice of confession.

Darkest Dungeon 2 and its new pet system

Red Hook Studios said :

There are a total of 10 animals to unlock in Darkest Dungeon 2, each with their own effects on the expedition. These cute and twisted companions bring a ray of hope to an otherwise dark world. A host of other gameplay changes, balancing tweaks, and quality of life improvements have been made as part of this update. These include community-requested features such as Valley reconfiguration, Hate rework, and Candle of Hope loosening, especially for new players.

Six of these are used as part of the construction of the Stagecoach – for example, the Unnatural Owl gives +5% debuff chance for each Handyman gear equipped on the Stagecoach. These attributes are added to items, and apply to, for example, the Explosive Magazine, Blueprint Tubes, Analytical Equipment, Tinker’s Workbench, and Smuggler’s Kit. The remaining four pets provide powerful combat effects.
