Reims Strike Draws 2500 Protesters Demanding Higher Wages

Approximately 2,500 demonstrators converged on the streets of Reims on Thursday, November 5, 2026, to participate in a strike organized by an inter-union coalition. The march, which aimed to highlight demands for higher wages and increased resources for public services, drew a diverse crowd of participants from across the region to the city center.

The mobilization began at approximately 10:00 a.m. at the Maison des Syndicats. From there, the procession moved through the city streets in what participants described as a festive and serene atmosphere. Escorted by a significant police presence, the marchers traveled toward the Place d’Erlon before proceeding along the promenades to the Porte de Mars in the Boulingrin district. The event concluded with a return to the Maison des Syndicats, completing the loop.

A Broad Coalition of Protesters

The demonstration brought together a wide array of citizens, including high school students, university students, retirees, and employees from both the private and public sectors. The collective goal expressed by those in attendance was to advocate for improved living conditions and to address the rising cost of living.

One participant underscored the nationwide scale of the movement, noting, Là, c’est toute la France qui manifeste. Du lycéen en passant par les parents jusqu’au retraité, which translates to: There, it is all of France that is demonstrating. From the high school student to the parents to the retiree.

Thousands of Residents Voice Economic Grievances

The strike, which was characterized by its calm nature throughout the morning, served as a platform for various societal groups to voice their concerns regarding economic pressures. By focusing on the necessity of better wages and the strengthening of public services, the inter-union call to action successfully brought thousands of residents into the public space to express their grievances in an organized and peaceful manner.
