The Internal Security Agency (ABW) has dismantled an organized criminal group suspected of funneling military-purpose components from Poland to the Russian Federation. The operation, which took place between October 21 and November 2, resulted in the arrest of six individuals accused of activities supporting the military potential of the Russian Federation.
The investigation, spearheaded by the ABW’s Olsztyn delegation, involved coordinated raids across 21 locations in the Warmian-Masurian, Pomeranian, and Greater Poland provinces. Among those detained are a 37-year-old Russian national and five Polish citizens, aged between 25 and 52. Authorities allege the group supplied essential parts for the production of ammunition and weapons systems.
Charges of Espionage and Strategic Trade Violations
The detainees have been brought before the Podlaskie branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Białystok, where they face formal charges of participating in an organized criminal group. Four of the six suspects have also been charged with espionage. The alleged smuggling operations involved technology critical to the defense capabilities of the Republic of Poland and international security.

Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services, confirmed that the evidence gathered indicates the suspects were operating on behalf of Russian special services. According to the investigation, the group acquired specialized components in Poland and illegally exported them to Russia, where they were sold to local services.

The remaining two individuals are subject to non-custodial preventive measures. The operational details, including the specific types of components smuggled, remain largely under seal as the investigation continues.
Scope of the Counter-Intelligence Investigation
The arrests in this case are part of a broader, sustained effort by Polish security services to neutralize foreign interference. Since January 2024, the ABW has initiated proceedings against nearly 100 individuals suspected of espionage or acts of sabotage. The current investigation is described as “developmental,” meaning that authorities are actively pursuing leads to determine if other individuals or entities were involved in the illicit trade network.

The 37-year-old Russian national was reportedly the link with foreign intelligence services.
The Podlaskie branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office continues to oversee the case, focusing on the violation of regulations governing the international trade of strategic goods and technologies. Further developments are expected as investigators process evidence seized during the 21 searches conducted across the country.
