SkyShowtime’s upcoming crime drama The Homicide Unit, produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Sweden, and Iceland’s Fjord have joined Reinvent Yellow Sales’ slate for the Mipcom market. Both eight-part and six-part English- and Nordic-language series center on elite female investigators played by acclaimed actors Pernilla August and Anita Briem.
Reinvent Yellow Expands Nordic Slate for Mipcom
- SkyShowtime and TV4-backed The Homicide Unit teams Swedish veteran Pernilla August with Jonas Karlsson, Alexander Abdallah, and Nina Zanjani for a March 2027 premiere.
- Co-created by Anita Briem and Constantine Paraskevopoulos, the English- and Icelandic-language thriller Fjord heads to local streamer Síminn following a London gallery collapse.
- Chief sales officer Helene Aurø reports that international buyers continue prioritizing crime and thrillers while demanding distinct creative voices and strong local roots.
Warner Bros. and SkyShowtime Back Riksmord
Created by Gunnar A. K. Järvstad, the eight-part series The Homicide Unit (known locally as Riksmord) takes inspiration from a real-life traveling elite police unit designed to untangle complex regional murder cases. The production is a collaborative effort between SkyShowtime and TV4 in Sweden, alongside regional backing from Film i Skåne, Film i Dalarna, and Filmpool Nord. Warner Bros. International Television Production Sweden handles the physical production, utilizing diverse Swedish landscapes ranging from dense northern forests to striking coastlines to establish the visual tone.
Pernilla August stars as the chief investigator named Ib, heading an ensemble cast that includes Jonas Karlsson, Alexander Abdallah, and Nina Zanjani. The series is scheduled to make its official premiere in March 2027. According to sales executive Helene Aurø, the title forms part of a broader push to keep premium Nordic dramas at the core of Reinvent Yellow’s catalog while simultaneously expanding development on English-language properties.
Anita Briem Leads English and Icelandic Thriller Fjord
Shifting focus from Sweden to Northern Iceland, the six-part series Fjord examines the suffocating dangers of small-town proximity. Co-created by Anita Briem and writer-director Constantine Paraskevopoulos, the bilingual project follows Ranna, played by Briem, as she returns to Iceland with her fiancé Sveinn following the sudden collapse of their London art gallery. Struggling to integrate into the tight-knit community, Ranna fixates on a decade-old missing persons case involving a local choir teacher and launches an investigative podcast.
Produced by Guðný Guðjónsdóttir and Sara Djeddou Baldursdóttir for Projects, alongside Belgium’s Lunanime for the local Icelandic streamer Síminn, Fjord is set to premiere later this year. Co-creator Paraskevopoulos noted in a statement that the real danger in the narrative stems from living too close to people with shared histories and too much to lose. The atmospheric Icelandic nature acts as an active narrative participant, mirroring the psychological claustrophobia of Ranna’s investigation.
Reinvent Yellow Broadens International Sales Catalog
The addition of these two crime titles bolsters Reinvent Yellow’s wider catalog heading into the international market. The sales agency, formed one year ago through the merger of Yellow Film Studios and REinvent, continues to lean heavily into established procedural formats while testing international waters with English-language adaptations. Alongside The Homicide Unit and Fjord, the slate includes the third installment of the Nora Sand franchise, titled Nora Sand: Devil’s Plan, which was commissioned by DR in Denmark and TV4 in Sweden.
| Series Title | Key Talent / Creators | Backers / Broadcasters | Scheduled Delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Homicide Unit | Pernilla August, Gunnar A. K. Järvstad | SkyShowtime, TV4, WBITVP Sweden | March 2027 |
| Fjord | Anita Briem, Constantine Paraskevopoulos | Síminn, Projects, Lunanime | Late 2026 |
| Nora Sand: Devil’s Plan | Arne Berggren, Kristine Berg | DR, TV4, Shuuto Arctic | Late 2026 |

Previous adaptations from the Nora Sand universe, such as Fatal Crossing and The Pushover, built solid distribution footprints abroad, securing North American deals with MHZ Networks and UK placements via Walter Presents. Reinvent Yellow’s multi-title agreement with Nordisk Film Production further expands the roster, incorporating Prime Video’s inaugural Danish original Snake Killer starring Pilou Asbæk, and TV2 Norway’s cozy crime drama Sogn Murders featuring Kristofer Hivju.
Buyer Demand at Mipcom Focuses on Select Crime and Survival Genres
Reinvent Yellow Sales’ chief sales officer Helene Aurø observed that global buyers remain active but increasingly selective ahead of market talks. Crime, thrillers, survival, disaster stories, and action projects retain top billing among acquiring executives. While a familiar genre helps secure initial interest, Aurø emphasized that projects require distinct creative voices and clear target audiences to stand out in a crowded global marketplace.
Rounding out the agency’s extensive Mipcom offerings are three Finnish series developed through partner Yellow Film & TV—Helsinki Tallinn, The Truth, and Port Poison—alongside the eighth season of the hit Danish hospital drama franchise The New Nurses. As the studio continues its post-merger evolution, the balancing act between localized Nordic storytelling and broader English-language ambitions dictates its strategy for international acquisitions.
