The resumption of the national men’s and women’s football championship is rescheduled for April 20 after the failure of March 30, announced the Minister of Sports, André Jacques Augand at the end of a meeting on Friday with the presidents of the football clubs.
The competition will take place from April to August, i.e. for 5 months. No Gabonese club will play an African competition in 2025 since the competition would not have yet delivered its winner when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) finalizes in July the list of clubs qualified for the CAF Cup and African Champions League.
« LThe championship will be played over five months and could start no later than April 20, 2024, but without taking into account CAF deadlines because Gabon will not register any club in African cups. », Said President Alaba Fall, president of the AO CMS after the meeting with the minister.
The Gabonese football championship is entirely financed by the State. Hence the stops and suspensions of the competition each time the State is late in payment.
This year, the State has planned a subsidy of 2.2 billion FCFA for the National Football League (LINAF) and 1.4 billion FCFA for the National Women’s Football League (LINAFFEM).
