Resident Evil 2 + 3 Remake: Capcom says: This is the ray tracing controversy

Over the weekend, an update to the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 on Steam caused a stir because it removed the ray tracing support that was actually there. In this regard, Capcom has finally declared itself.

On the PC, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 actually supported the opulent and advanced ray tracing technology – at least until last weekend. Then out of nowhere came a small update for both games, which secretly, quietly removed the corresponding options. Of course, this caused an outcry among PC gamers, but an official statement has been a long time coming – until now.

Capcom has now declared itself via the official Resident Evil Twitter channel and indicates that the removal of the ray tracing and 3D audio option was apparently anything but intended. Players had previously speculated about the background and often considered that removing the ray tracing options could be more of a bug.

This fact now seems to be confirmed, at least Capcom emphasizes that they are aware of the problem. They also assure that this will be fixed in a future update. In short: ray tracing will return to both games.

However, the developers are silent as to why this problem came about in the first place. It is also not yet clear when ray tracing and 3D audio will return to games.
