SOMERSET: A suspended Conservative MP has resigned following sex allegations. David Warburton, who represents the Somerton and Frome constituency in Somerset, resigned. Four MPs have resigned in the UK in eight days. The first of these is former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who resigned following the Partygate scandal. Boris’s resignation was followed by two more resignations. Nigel Adams and Nadine Dorries resigned.

With this, Rishi Sunak’s cabinet will have to face four by-elections in Britain. Out of those who resigned, by-elections may be held soon in the rest of the constituencies except for Nadine Dorris’s constituency. Sexual accusations against David Warburton come 14 months ago through some national newspapers in Britain. It is alleged that he took drugs and misbehaved with two women. Following this, David Warburton was suspended from the Conservative Party in April last year.

But in a three-page resignation letter, David Warburton said the allegations against him were malicious and that the Independent Complaints and Grievances Scheme (ICGS) had denied him a fair hearing and was not allowed to speak while the allegations were being investigated. David Warburton captured an influential constituency for the Liberal Democrats in 2015. He was re-elected in 2017 and 2019. He won with a majority of 19,213 votes in the last polls.
