The Ukrainian conflict invites itself to the National Assembly
The French deputies return to the Hemicycle today with a debate on the situation in Ukraine, more tense than ever after Moscow’s demand for the annexation of four Ukrainian regions. This debate, organized under article 50-1 of the Constitution, will not give rise to a vote.
The President of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, has just returned from a trip to Ukraine with several parliamentarians from the majority and the Socialist Vice-President Valérie Rabault, to demonstrate the “solidarity of France”.
At 4 p.m., the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, should open the discussion.
At Les Républicains, the first group to speak, Michèle Tabarot will express the “refusal to recognize illegal annexations”and should refer to the “changes in the president’s position that undermined the clarity of the action” française.
In the majority, the Modem Frédéric Petit wishes to insist on the “need to prepare French opinions for the difficulties to come”and the duty to help rebuild Ukraine.
Will follow the president of the Socialist Party group, Boris Vallaud, who should defend “the full sovereignty of the borders of Ukraine recognized in 1991”.
At Europe Ecologie-Les Verts, Aurélien Taché plans to intervene on French companies that refuse to leave Russia.
On the side of the Communist Party, Jean-Paul Lecoq wants to question “the inability to make peace” et “the lack of credibility of permanent members of the Security Council” United Nations.
Seven speakers, including the group president, Aurore Bergé, will speak for Renaissance, which has a maximum of fifty minutes, against ten or fifteen for the other groups.
The National Rally wants to discuss the fallout from the sanctions against Russia. The leader of La France insoumise, Mathilde Panot, should conclude the parliamentary interventions by “condemning Russian aggression” and recalling that the economic situation in France cannot be “entirely blamed on the war”.
Elisabeth Borne had promised this debate on Ukraine in July. It will also take place in the Senate on October 26.
