Kuwait City: A move to restrict the issuance of driving licenses to expatriates in Kuwait. The main provision is to increase the minimum wage of non-residents applying for driving license. Local media reported that the Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior has drafted the new rules. The new rules were prepared under the leadership of the traffic department as part of solving the traffic jam in the country.

Local media outlet Kuwait Times reported that the new proposals will be submitted to the Interior Minister for approval following the formation of the government. The main thing in the new provision is to increase the minimum wage of non-residents applying for driving license. According to the report, only certain professions can get a driving license. The action once morest non-residents who do not meet the license criteria is continuing in the country.

Expatriates who have worked in Kuwait for two years and have a salary of at least 600 dinars and a degree are allowed to apply for a driving license in the country. Licenses are automatically revoked if the qualifications at the time of applying for the license are subsequently lost. Officials also stated that if they are found to be driving a vehicle despite having their license revoked, they will be deported from the country. There are indications that a decision regarding renewal of registration of vehicles older than 15 years will also be taken soon.
