According to German media reports on June 30, data from German arms dealer Rheinmetall showed that orders received by the company in 2022 will increase by 18% year-on-year due to the continuous shipment of weapons from the West to Ukraine. Rheinmetall is currently planning to start a new ammunition production line and hire hundreds of employees.
According to reports, Rheinmetall’s current orders include maintenance and repair of “Weasel” infantry fighting vehicles, “Leopard 2” main battle tanks and other weapons and equipment, as well as providing ammunition for Ukraine. It is estimated that the total amount of arms exports approved by the German government in 2022 will exceed 8.35 billion euros, or about 66.1 billion yuan, the second highest in Germany’s history.
Earlier, German defense contractor Rheinmetall announced in Düsseldorf on June 27 that it had reached a contract agreement with representatives of the governments of Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark to supply Ukraine with 14 Leopards next year- 2 tanks.
According to reports, Denmark and the Netherlands said in April this year that they would jointly provide Ukraine with 14 “Leopard”-2A4 main battle tanks. These tanks did not come from the stocks of these countries, but were purchased from German industrial stocks, repaired and donated to Ukraine. The cost at the time was estimated at around 165 million euros (about $180 million).
According to reports, these tanks will be delivered in 2024, and the first Leopard-2 tank is scheduled to arrive in Ukraine in January of that year.
According to the report, Kiev asked Western countries to support its fight against Russia by providing main battle tanks. Several European countries, including Germany, have provided various types of Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
