RMP on proposals to advance elections: “You cannot elect a president without electing a Congress at the same time” | Present

In “Without a script”, Rosa María Palacios referred to the various positions of the congressmen, within the framework of the reconsideration of the project to advance the elections for this 2023.

Rosa María Palacios analyzed the declarations of the congressmen about the project to advance the elections for this 2023. First, she addressed what was expressed by congressman Jorge Montoya, from Renovación Popular, who stated that Congress cannot be dissolved, for which he invited everyone to read the Constitution.

“The ‘must be’ is that the parliamentary mandate lasts five years, but Congress can be dissolved by the Executive if it denies trust to two cabinets; then, there we have a first exception. And the president can finish his term when It is empty (…) There are causes and exceptions,” he asserted.

“The discrediting of Pedro Castillo has been brutal with a coup d’etat. A person elected on the same plate, with his same political project, even if he rejects it today, is not acceptable to the majority of the population. And, in the same way, a Congress that is stuck, that precisely because of its correlation of forces makes it impossible for it to generate anything positive for the country, cannot continue and, furthermore, because you cannot elect a president without electing a Congress at the same time,” he continued.

On this, he expressed that among the projects that are circulating are that the president be elected for a term until 2026 in an electoral process, but that Congress continue.
