Rocket: Brandon Gignac scored a great goal in a 6-2 win

Brandon Gignac scored a great goal and the Laval Rocket’s special teams were effective in a convincing 6-2 win over the Utica Comets.

Fans at Place Bell rose from their seats in the middle period. During a numerical disadvantage, Brandon Gignac presented himself in front of Simon Nemec whom he thwarted with a clever feint. He then got the better of goalkeeper Nico Daws with a backhand shot.

Although Lucas Condotta was still in the penalty box, it was the Rocket who once once more stood out. Eight seconds following Gignac’s goal, Nate Schnarr found the back of the net to make it 2-1 Laval.

A little less than three minutes later, Joël Teasdale gave his team a two-goal cushion with a net, this time on the power play. On another powerplay in the third period, Mitchell Stephens jumped on a rebound for his team’s fourth goal.

Stephens returned shorthanded moments later with his eighth goal of the campaign. Gignac completed the scoring with his second goal of the game, the Rocket’s only even-strength goal.

In front of the Rocket cage, Cayden Primeau saved 29 pucks to help his team sign a third consecutive victory. The Rocket will play its next five games on opposing rinks.
